Merry Christmas Sunday Blessings for a Peaceful Holiday Season
The Sundays of December feel different. They sit inside Advent, the weeks that lead up to Christmas. They are made for slowing down, for worship, and for blessing the people you love. That is why we wrote these Christmas Sunday blessings.
Below you will find Christmas Sunday blessings, prayers, and exact Bible verses for the season, plus the dates of every Christmas-season Sunday in 2026. Copy any of them, save them, or share them by text, WhatsApp, or a Pinterest pin. Hope for Sunday. Faith for the week.
Quick answer: A Christmas Sunday blessing is a short, faith-based message for a Sunday during the Christmas season. It wishes someone peace, joy, and God's love as Christmas draws near. A blessing is spoken to a person. A prayer is spoken to God. Scripture is God's word, quoted exactly. We keep the three apart so you always know which one you are sending.
The short version: A good Christmas Sunday blessing is warm, short, and Christ-centered. Wish peace and joy, name the person, and add a line of Scripture if you can. Send it on a December Sunday morning, before church, or at the family table. For someone missing a loved one this year, lead with comfort, not cheer.

When Is Christmas Sunday in 2026?
Many people ask if Christmas itself lands on a Sunday this year. It does not. Christmas Day 2026 falls on Friday, December 25. The next time Christmas Day is a Sunday is 2033.
So Christmas Sunday usually means one of the Sundays of the Christmas season. These are the Sundays of Advent, plus the Sunday right after Christmas. Here are the dates for 2026.
| Christmas-season Sunday | Date (2026) |
|---|---|
| First Sunday of Advent | Sunday, November 29 |
| Second Sunday of Advent | Sunday, December 6 |
| Third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete) | Sunday, December 13 |
| Fourth Sunday of Advent | Sunday, December 20 |
| Christmas Eve | Thursday, December 24 |
| Christmas Day | Friday, December 25 |
| First Sunday after Christmas | Sunday, December 27 |
Many people send their Christmas Sunday blessings on December 20, the last Sunday before Christmas, or on December 27, the Sunday after it. The blessings on this page work for any of them.
What the Advent candles mean. Many churches light one candle on each Sunday of Advent. In a lot of traditions the four candles stand for hope, peace, joy, and love, with the joy candle lit on the third Sunday, called Gaudete Sunday. A white Christ candle is lit on Christmas. Traditions differ from church to church, so this is the common pattern for most Christians, not a fixed rule.

Advent Candle Blessings, Week by Week
Many families light one candle of the Advent wreath on each Sunday before Christmas. In a lot of churches the four candles stand for hope, peace, joy, and love, with a white Christ candle lit on Christmas. Traditions differ from church to church, and some use the themes of the prophets, Bethlehem, the shepherds, and the angels instead. Here is a short blessing, a prayer, and an exact King James Version verse for each candle, whichever pattern your church follows.
First Sunday of Advent: The Hope Candle
Blessing: As we light the first candle, may hope come alive in your heart this Advent. May you wait for Christmas not with worry, but with quiet, steady hope.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, as Advent begins, fill our home with hope. Help us wait for the coming of Your Son with patient, trusting hearts. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.Romans 15:13 (KJV)
Second Sunday of Advent: The Peace Candle
Blessing: As the second candle is lit, may the peace of Christ settle over your home. May the rush of the season give way to calm, and your heart find rest.
Prayer: Dear Lord, this week we light the candle of peace. Quiet the noise around us and within us, and prepare our hearts for the Prince of Peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.John 14:27 (KJV)
Third Sunday of Advent: The Joy Candle (Gaudete)
Blessing: As the joy candle is lit, often a pink one, may real joy rise in you this Advent. Christmas is near, and the good news is almost here.
Prayer: Father, this week we light the candle of joy. Thank You for the good tidings of great joy. Let that joy fill our home as we wait for Christmas morning. In Jesus' name, Amen.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.Luke 2:10 (KJV)
Fourth Sunday of Advent: The Love Candle
Blessing: As we light the final Advent candle, may God's love fill your home. Christmas is almost here, and with it the clearest sign of how much God loves us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, this week we light the candle of love. Thank You for loving us enough to send Your Son. Help us love one another as You have loved us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.1 John 4:9 (KJV)
Christmas: The Christ Candle
Blessing: On Christmas, the white Christ candle is lit at the center of the wreath. May the Light the whole season pointed to fill your home with peace and joy today.

Why Christmas Sundays Are Special
For most Christians, Sunday is the Lord's Day, a day for worship and rest. In December, those Sundays fall inside Advent, the season of getting ready for Christmas. That gives each one a little more weight. There is more to be thankful for and more reason to slow down and bless the people around you.
We keep three things apart on this page:
- Blessings are spoken to a person. They are our own words.
- Prayers are spoken to God. Ours are marked and end with Amen.
- Scripture is God's word. We quote it exactly from the KJV and never rewrite it.
Christmas Sunday Prayers
A blessing is spoken to a person. A prayer is spoken to God. Here are two short prayers for the season.
Prayer for a Christmas Sunday
Heavenly Father, thank You for this Christmas Sunday. Thank You for the gift of Your Son. Fill our home with peace and our hearts with joy. Help us remember the reason for this season. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Echoes John 3:16.
Prayer for the Family at Christmas
Dear Lord, bless my family this Christmas Sunday. Draw us close together. Fill our home with love and laughter. Keep the peace of the manger in our hearts all season. Be near the ones who are hurting or far away. In Jesus' name, Amen.

This is the heart of the Christmas story. It is Scripture, so we have not changed a word.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.Luke 2:11 (KJV) · Read it on Bible Gateway

Christmas Sunday Blessing Images
Sometimes a Christmas Sunday blessing says it best as an image, and this is one season where a picture travels far. A warm Christmas Sunday image does well on Pinterest, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Here is how to make one land:
- Pick a short blessing from this page. Shorter reads better over a photo.
- Pair it with a calm, festive image, like a candle, greenery, or soft lights.
- Keep the words clear so the meaning is not lost in the design.
- Add your friend's name when you send it so it feels personal, not forwarded.
How to Share a Christmas Sunday Blessing
A blessing means more when it fits the moment. Here is a simple way to share the Christmas Sunday blessings above.
- Pick the moment. A morning text, a note before church, or a word at Christmas dinner.
- Name the person. Merry Christmas Sunday, Grandma feels warmer than a general note.
- Add a short verse. One line of Scripture points to the reason for the season.
- Choose a channel. Send it by text or WhatsApp, or post an image on social media.
Blessing, Prayer, or Scripture at Christmas
Here is the plain version, because it matters more at Christmas. It is what makes our Christmas Sunday blessings different from a generic image. A blessing speaks to a person. May your Christmas Sunday be merry is a blessing. A prayer speaks to God. Lord, bless our home this Christmas is a prayer. Scripture is God's own word, quoted with its reference. We keep all three separate on purpose, because the season is built on a real event: the birth of Jesus.
About These Christmas Blessings
Many Christmas blessing pages online are simple image galleries. We wanted something more careful. We write every blessing and prayer here ourselves, in plain, sincere words, and nothing is copied from another site and reworded. We quote every Bible verse from the King James Version with its exact reference, and we never rewrite Scripture. We keep blessings, prayers, and Scripture apart on purpose. You can read how we work in our editorial policy.
Blessings and prayers are original Sunday Hope texts. Scripture is quoted from the King James Version. Last reviewed: October 20, 2026.
